Wang Shouwen Attends and Addresses the Opening Ceremony of the 5th China-Eurasia Expo cum China-Eurasia Economic Development and Cooperation Forum
On September 20, 2016, the 5th China-Eurasia Expo was inaugurated in Urumchi, Xinjiang. Vice Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Eligen Imibakhi attended the opening ceremony cum China-Eurasia Economic Development and Cooperation Forum to make a keynote speech. Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen also attended and addressed the opening ceremony cum China-Eurasia Economic Development and Cooperation Forum.
First held successfully in 2011, China-Eurasia Expo is an important initiative of the Chinese government for implementing a more proactive opening-up strategy, Wang said in his speech. Since President Xi Jinping proposed the major strategy of OBOR in 2013, China-Eurasia Expo has been an important platform that promotes exchange and communication among Eurasian countries.
According to Wang’s speech, based on the institutions like joint trade committee, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) continuously deepens the economic and trade cooperation with the countries along the OBOR, and has launched a range of major projects on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor; the project “China-Belarus Industrial Park” is running smoothly, and the FTA negotiation with Georgia is about to end. In addition, great achievements have been made in the field of infrastructure. The 1# tunnel of the Vakhdat-Yovon railway bridge and tunnel project, which was built by Chinese enterprise, has been opened; a few major projects including Armenia's North-South Highway are continuously proceeding. In all these events of trade and investment promotion, China-Eurasia Expo is playing the role of catalysis and boosting.
